Army v Navy Match - More than just a Game

On 7th May 2011, the traditional Army v Navy rugby match returns to Twickenham Stadium for another passionate encounter. 10 lucky Marines, who have just returned from Afghanistan, will be watching the match from the Executive Box at Twickenham. The group includes 21 year old Marty Denning, who has already served a tour in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Held at HQ since 1920, the famous fixture is the final match of the Babcock Inter-Services Championship, and creates the most competitive atmosphere of any clash at Twickenham. Last year the Royal Navy triumphed over the Army for the first time since 2001, in what was one of the most exciting games in recent years. In a hard fought match that could have gone either way, it was the Navy who left with the coveted Babcock Trophy.

A week after the Royal Wedding, at the peak of national patriotism, over 60,000 spectators will attend Army v Navy 2011 and support our troops in what is sure to be another incredible game of rugby. The Royal Navy will be bringing out a strong side with the likes of England Sevens internationals Josh Drauniniu and Greg Barden, who narrowly missed out on medals at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, as well as last year's captain, and ever reliable place kicker, Dave Pascoe, all fighting to retain the Babcock Trophy. The Army's hopes for victory include Exeter front row Chris Budgen, Apo Satala and Mark Lee (Barbarian and former Scotland 7s captain), anchored by Fijian international Jack Prasad at fly-half.
